Big Night For The Hometown Kid

Last night, the Minnesota Wild and the New York Islanders played in a game that will be remembered by Islanders fans thoughout the season.

The Wild got off to a lead with a wrist shot by Ryan Suter 3:22 into the 1st period. That was his 1st goal of the season.

Jonas Brodin scored 39 seconds into the 2nd period, his 7th goal of the season. Nino Niederreiter scored on a wrist shot 2:59 into the 2nd period.

The Islanders got their first goal of the night by John Tavares, 8:45 in the 2nd period, his 14th goal of the season. The Islanders cut the lead down to 1 with a tip in goal by Cal Clutterbuck, 18:58 in the 2nd period and that was his 5th goal of the season.

The Islanders tied up the game with a tip in goal by Thomas Hickey, 6:30 in the 3rd that was his 2nd goal of the season. Minnesota own Kyle Okposo gave the Islanders the lead with a slap shot 12:13 in the 3rd that was his 13th goal of the season.

Justin Fontaine tied up the game for the wild 13:45 in the 3rd period. The hometown kid, Kyle Okposo, scored the game winning goal for the islanders with a wrist shot 13:45 in the 3rd

This is what the Wild coach had to say after they blew a 3-0 lead, “It was there for us. That’s the disturbing part. It’s hard to find the words for this because this is beyond disturbing right now”. Mike Yeo continues, “We have to find a way to win that game. You’re up 3-0 and you’re at home there’s no excuse. We just have to get it done It’s as simple as that. Don’t ask me for the words because I’ve been thinking about it since the game ended. I can’t find a word to describe the feeling right now”.

Captain Mikko Koivu was not happy about the outcome of this game. “Of course it’s tough. We’re up 3-0 at home and I really don’t know”. Koivu said “there’s no explanation, that just can’t happen”.
